Try Curling

For the new curler looking for instruction, gameplay, and preparation for leagues, our Intro to Curling course is for you; call it “Curling 101!” Our course has been developed and tested to provide you with a solid foundation to begin playing the sport with confidence and have fun every time you step on the ice. 

Our Intro to Curling course is a six-session program, including 12 hours of progressive curling instruction. Each session features coaching and encouragement from the Rock Creek Curling team, plus gameplay that helps you build skills, learn the basics of the game, and develop strategy.

Course Overview:

Session 1: Fundamentals of Sliding and Sweeping + gameplay

Session 2: Alignment and Aiming from the Hack + gameplay

Session 3: Adjusting Weight (Part 1 - Guards and Draws) and Sweeper Communication + gameplay

Session 4: Adjusting Weight (Part 2 - Takeouts) and Sweeper Communication + gameplay

Session 5: Fine-Tuning Your Delivery + gameplay

Session 6: Playing a Full Game with Coaching and Feedback

The course fee includes all of the equipment you need to get started: curling shoes, curling brooms, and delivery devices. You will learn to curl from some of the greatest instructors out there, on some of the best curling ice in the United States!

We give you complimentary Intro membership to Rock Creek Curling for the duration of your class. This will provide you access to register for practice ice and clinics at member pricing, as well as the opportunity to receive member discounts on Rock Creek merchandise in the Pro Shop. We always offer member pricing at the bar on league and Intro nights.

Membership in USA Curling is not required for these courses, but is recommended because it provides Individual-member on-ice medical insurance.

Get on the ice for the first time at an Open House!

Whether you want to try your hand at a new sport or just check curling off your bucket list, Rock Creek Curling’s open houses are designed for you. Bring your friends and family to learn while having fun on and off the ice.

Learn to slide, throw, and sweep in a one-hour session, then experience the fun of curling broomstacking in our warm room upstairs. Open house events are one of the best ways to both try curling and experience the atmosphere of Rock Creek Curling; these sessions are limited to 4 participants per sheet/per instructor. You can book individual spots or reserve 4 spots on a sheet for your group.

Open House sessions are $50 per adult and $25 for youth 14 and under. All of our sessions are family-friendly, but we ask that curlers be at least 10 years old for these sessions.

On the ice, you will have the opportunity to:

• Practice the basics of stone delivery
• Try your hand at sweeping stones toward their target
• Put it all together to get some rocks in play against fellow participants

Rock Creek Curling will provide all on-ice equipment, including brooms, curling footwear, and delivery stabilizers for delivering stones.

What to wear:

• Warm, comfortable, flexible clothing that will allow you to move on the ice.
• If you do not wear a Men’s size 3 – 13 or do not wish to wear curling shoes, bring clean, rubber-soled shoes to the rink with you for on-ice use. Do not wear them into the building to help keep the dirt from making its way onto the ice.
• Thin gloves and a hat are recommended. Socks are required.
• Helmets are required for children 12 and under. We recommend ski/snowboard helmets or bike helmets.
